Samenvatting

Rapid urbanisation and migration have resulted in the development of a stratified urban human settlement system. Five sample cities of Delhi, Chandigarh, Uttarkashi, Phagwara and small towns of Saharanpur have been examined to determine the emerging trends in women's mobility. This paper concludes that the apparent observed inequities in travel demand warrants a more sensitive gender biased approach to planning of social and transport infrastructure in Indian cities. (A) The French title of this paper is: "Mobilité des femmes dans les villes indiennes".
