Samenvatting

This paper discusses the possible role of psychology in the area of transport and traffic from two perspectives: the identification of problems; and the contribution to problem solution. Problem definition requires more use of methods and instruments that could identify hidden problems which have an impact on the perceived problem. The contribution of psychology to problem solution is divided into two approaches: proving the validity of analytical methods or solutions before implementation in traffic and transport; and suggesting the application of established methods and solutions before proving their validity in the new area.
