Samenvatting

The Regional Municipality of York is responsible for 3,100 lane kilometres of roads in providing Regional infrastructure. Bayview Avenue is a major component of this network, extending from the Steeles Avenue boundary shared with the City of Toronto to Davis Drive in the Town of Newmarket. Bayview Avenue was discontinuous from Stouffville Road to Bloomington Road, placing added pressure on the existing, local road structure, until the Bayview Avenue extension was completed in late 2002. The project features these innovative environmental achievements: environmentally responsible road alignment; wetland habitat creation project; amphibian roadway crossings; Jefferson Ravine bridge crossing; extensive vegetation and landscaping enhancements; and a detailed environmental analysis. This project was nominated for the 2002 Environmental Achievement Award.
