Samenvatting

The author uses General Strain and Self-Control Theory to examine young driver accidents and driving delinquency. His results suggest that the effectiveness of social policies aimed at meliorating this problem could be improved through programmatic activities that consider both individual social psychology and "propensities". A simultaneous test reveals both additive effects between the two theories and interactive effects among social psychology and existing social policies. He discusses the implications of his findings for public policy and criminological theory. Additionally, he notes the measurement and modeling difficulties associated with such an examination and offers novel scales that may be of utility in future investigations. (Author/publisher)
