Samenvatting

As all road safety professionals know, young drivers are at high risk of crashing when they obtain a full licence and begin to drive unsupervised. As an example, an 18-year-old is at six times higher risk of crashing than their parents and at three times higher risk of crashing than a 35-year-old who has just passed their driving test. Finding ways of reducing crashes and casualties caused by young, newly qualified drivers is a key challenge for the Government, road safety professionals and private sector organisations such as insurance companies. Rather than looking back and covering old ground, this one day event, which is organised by Road Safety GB working in partnership with FirstCar, looks at current and future thinking with regard to this vital issue, and what is being done now and in the future to improve the situation. All of the presentations are available for download, alongside speaker profiles, here: http://youngdriverfocus.org.uk/?page_id=18 (Author/publisher)
