Fitting in with the development of attractive car-restricted or car-free areas, in this study recommendations are made for the spatial planning of shops and services, which are in agreement with the movement patterns of non-car-owning households. The study is based on a literature review as well as a questionnaire. Following from the conclusion that non-car-owning households buy their daily goods on walking/cycling distance from their residence, the recommendation is made that these shops need to be integrated in the residential environment. In order to achieve this, a change in spatial policy is necessary. (A)
