Badly served long distance connections by public transport in the Netherlands. The paper searches for long distance travel relations in the Netherlands that are badly served by public transport. For the analysis three variables that define the level of service are selected: detour factor by train, train frequency and number of vehicle changes. Assuming that the influence of a variable on the market share of public transport is a good indicator for the contribution of the variable to the overall quality of the pt-connection, the influence is examined for relations between the cities of national importance. All variables prove to have a significant influence on the pt market share. The detour factor seems to have the smallest influence. Based on the results of the demand analysis a minimum level of acceptable service is defined. The level of service of the connections between the cities is compared to the minimum level. It appears, that the level of service is fairly good to good on the majority of the connections. Deficient levels of service are due to large detour factors and many changes. The train frequencies are remarkable constant (two per hour). The lowest accessible regions are the frontier regions Venlo and Twente.(Author/publisher)
