Straylight, contrast sensitivity and the critical object in relation to tunnel entrance lighting.

The black hole effect for tunnel entrances can be avoided by making the entrance lighting competitive with ambient straylight. Current CIE proposals on tunnel-entrance lighting will evidently fall short if not a reevaluation of the "critical object" concept is undertaken.
